THIS IS AMAZING: Keisha Lance Bottoms just beat a billionaire who called himself Trump’s “favorite governor,” and she made history doing it.
The former Atlanta mayor is now the first Black woman ever elected governor of any state in America.
She’s also Georgia’s first woman governor and its first Black governor. All 83 governors before her were white men.
Rick Jackson tried to buy his way past her. Pro-Jackson ads totaled $271.5 million, compared to $32.8 million backing Bottoms. He outspent her roughly 8 to 1 and lost anyway.
Jackson pitched himself as “just like Trump, but with a Southern tone.”
Dear Leader endorsed him and brought him onstage at a Georgia rally. Jackson skipped a debate and left Bottoms to take questions alone. In the primary, he wouldn’t even say who won the 2020 election.
Georgia voters weren’t buying any of it.
Bottoms ran on expanding Medicaid to roughly 300,000 uninsured Georgians and raising the minimum wage. She’s the first Democrat elected governor of Georgia since 1998.
Her family traces its roots to a plantation in Crawfordville, Georgia. Five generations later, she’s moving into the Governor’s Mansion.
Stacey Abrams came close twice. Keisha Lance Bottoms finished the job.
